Overview

Digital Ultra Clear / Circular Polarizer, Protects Lens Element

Description

The  52mm Protection Filter Kit from Tiffen offers you two filters that should be an integral part of any photographer's gear bag.

Digital Ultra Clear Filters It is a wise initial investment. It can help protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs. A filter is also the best available protection against accidental damage to the front element of your lens. A lens that accidentally gets dropped on its front element while hiking can potentially be saved by purchasing this item. Some people refer to it as "cheap insurance".

A Digital Ultra Clear is probably one of the most popular filters people use. As a lens protector, it should be left on at all times to guard against front element damage but also adds the benefit of rendering your images clearer.

The Digital Ultra Clear differs from Tiffen's standard UV filter in that it made with higher quality Water White glass that is optically purer. This kind of glass represents Tiffen's highest calibre of glass. Water White glass, using Tiffen’s ColorCore technology, is characterised by a high transmission quality. Typically, it will transmit 98-99% of the light. It also features an anti-glare and anti-reflective quality that makes it useful in a wide range of uses including the movie theatre industry, store and art displays. The glass is virtually defect-free and is becoming more and more prevalent in digital equipment.

Circular Polarisers Light rays which are reflected become polarised. Polarising filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colours providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

If you're out walking on a lovely day - in the mountains or at the beach - and you want to get a fabulous shot of a cloud-filled sky or make the water seem more saturated, then a polariser is the way to go. This filter is the best way to make the clouds stand out, increase or decrease the saturation of the ocean or increase or decrease the reflection off the water. You can also use this filter when shooting into glass or windows since it will, again, either increase or decrease reflections.

If you're shooting black and white and want to simulate a threatening storm, try throwing on a #25 Red filter. The vista will take on the appearance of an imminent, ominous storm. Along with a UV or Skylight Filter, a polarising filter should be a part of everyone's gear bag. It can turn a run-of-the-mill image into a stunning, creative photo by increasing colour saturation.
