The 4 x 4" Glimmerglass 1/2 Diffusion Filter from Tiffen is a unique way to give your portrait subject a clean, fresh and flattering appearance. This creative diffusion filter offers you a graded way to choose the degree of filration that will compliment your subject. While Glimmerglass softens fine details like blemishes, it also adds a gentle and flattering glow to the shot that adds an enhanced sense of glamour. The lighter grades of the filter are subtle while the higher grades will show noticeably more diffusion.

The filter also reduces contrast that will take the harshness off the shot and present your subject in a more flattering light. The main feature of Glimmerglass is that it produces a silver sparkle in the front of the filter that makes your subject feel more confident. That sparkle adds a psychological element to the shot that makes your subject more responsive and confident that the session is going well. In that sense, Glimmerglass is as effective to look at as it is to look through.

The 1/2 Glimmerglass is still subtle in its effect but generates enough softness to deliver a pleasing portrait with a soft glow around the highlights. Contrast is lower than the 1/4 version.

Tiffen's ColorCore glass is produced through a process that entails permanently laminating the filter material in between two pieces of optical glass that are ground flat to tolerances of a ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounting them in precision aluminum rings.
