Designed by a team of former AKG personnel, the Austrian Audio OC818 Dual Set Plus Large-Diaphragm Multipattern Condenser Microphone offers a wide range of features and capabilities for capturing detailed and customisable audio. These large-diaphragm studio condenser microphones are perfect for stereo miking solo instruments, drum kits, and ensembles. The 1" ceramic capsule is handmade and features two gold-plated polymer membranes, allowing for multiple polar patterns. With a 5-position switch, you can easily choose between figure-8, hypercardioid, cardioid, omnidirectional, or wide cardioid patterns.
The OC818 also boasts dual-channel recording, with each diaphragm routed to a separate output connector. This allows you to create custom polar pattern responses across five frequency bands using the open-source PolarDesigner plug-in. Additionally, the StereoCreator plug-in enables you to achieve a tweakable stereo image. Alternatively, you can connect the secondary output to the optional OCR8 Bluetooth module for wireless control and selection of 255 polar patterns via the PolarPilot app.
Convenience is key with the OC818. Front-panel switches provide easy access to pad and roll-off settings. The pad can be set to -10 or -20 dB to prevent distortion when miking loud sources. The high-pass filter, available at 40, 80, or 160 Hz, effectively attenuates low-frequency issues like rumble and proximity effect. The microphone's housing is constructed of zinc-aluminium alloy, ensuring strength and durability.
