The Tiffen 4 x 5.65" Soft/FX 1/8 Filter can be used to intentionally reduce the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles in portraits or to create a general soft-focus effect while preserving overall sharpness. An array of tiny lenses embedded across the surface of the filter helps smooth fine lines and textures, making it useful for producing a more flattering look for a subject.
Filter Effect and Grades
This filter has a grade of 1/8. Grades of 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are also available, with the effect of this filter type becoming approximately twice as strong with each increase in grade number. At higher grade levels, a halation effect around highlights can be introduced to further enhance a subject’s appearance or to achieve a specific creative effect.
Construction and Compatibility
This filter is made from optical glass for clarity and colour fidelity, and it is compatible with filter holders designed to accommodate 4mm-thick, 4 x 5.65" rectangular filters. It is manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process in which the filter substrate is laminated between two pieces of optical glass and ground flat to a tolerance of approximately 0.0025mm.
