Designed by a team of former AKG personnel, the Austrian Audio OC818 Dual Set Plus Large-Diaphragm Multipattern Condenser Microphone is a matched pair of large-diaphragm studio condenser microphones. These microphones offer detailed audio capture and immense sonic customization, making them ideal for stereo miking solo instruments, drum kits, and ensembles. The handmade 1" ceramic capsule features two gold-plated polymer membranes that allow for multiple polar patterns. You can easily set the OC818 to figure-8, hypercardioid, cardioid, omnidirectional, or wide cardioid using the 5-position switch.
Each diaphragm is connected to a separate output connector, enabling dual-channel recording. This setup allows you to create custom polar pattern responses across five frequency bands using the open-source PolarDesigner plug-in. Additionally, you can achieve a customizable stereo image with the StereoCreator plug-in, thanks to the separate outputs.
If you prefer wireless control and more polar pattern options, you can connect the secondary output to the optional OCR8 Bluetooth module. With this setup, you can access and select from 255 polar patterns using the free iOS/Android PolarPilot app.
The OC818 mic also features front-panel switches for easy access to pad and roll-off settings. You can adjust the pad to -10 or -20 dB to prevent distortion when miking loud sources. The high-pass filter, available at 40, 80, or 160 Hz, helps in attenuating low-frequency problems like rumble and proximity effect.
The OC818's housing is constructed of a strong and durable zinc-aluminium alloy. The Dual Set Plus package includes two shockmounts, two mic clips, a stereo bar, two mini 5-pin XLR to 3-pin XLR cables, two windscreens for noise reduction, and a protective carry case for convenient transport and storage.
