The headphones have a rugged yet comfortable design, with a durable spring steel headband, a memory foam and leatherette headband pad with a fontanelle recess to avoid sensitive parts of the head, and soft velour earpads engineered to make long listening sessions effortless. The gold-plated 3.5 mm cable is detachable and features a reliable locking mini-XLR connection to the earcup. The DT 1990 PRO MKII includes coiled and straight detachable cables, two velour earpad sets designed either for analytical mixing/mastering or high-fidelity playback, a 3.5 mm to 6.35 mm TRS plug adapter, and a hard case.

The DT 1990 PRO MKII features the latest generation of Tesla driver technology: Tesla.45. Redesigned from the ground up, the 45 mm driver system delivers excellent resolution, extremely low distortion, and outstanding impulse behavior. The Tesla.45 maintains signal fidelity even at high volumes.
The DT 1990 PRO MKII has an impedance of 30 ohms, meaning these studio headphones can be used with a variety of devices. In terms of sound, the reference headphones deliver precise bass response down to the lowest octaves. The slightly reduced highs compared to the previous model still provide a significant amount of detail and help avoid mistakes and missed opportunities when mixing. Thanks to the wide soundstage, instruments and voices can be pinpointed with precision. Each DT 1990 PRO MKII contains two TESLA.45 sound transducers.
Two Sound Signatures
Designed to maximize flexibility, the DT 1990 PRO MKII comes with two different types of earpads. The Producing Velours, attached to the headphones by default, deliver a full sound thanks to a slight bass boost. The Mixing and Mastering Velours provide a more analytical sound. The earpads can be identified by the cutouts on the back: the Producing Velours have a number of small holes on the back, while the Mixing and Mastering Velours have exactly four small holes.
