Designed for electric guitar payers, the Electro-Harmonix Hot Wax Dual Overdrive Pedal is a pedal that houses the distortion sections of two venerable pedals—the Crayon and the Hot Tubes. The Crayon can provide a subtle, dirty overdrive, or it can be pushed into delivering heavy lead tones. The Hot Tubes, on the other hand, is well known for its ability to simulate the cranking of a tube amp driven to the hilt. Each section can be used separately for its individual flavour or combined for a wall of distortion.
When run separately, the two-volume and drive knobs control their respective circuits. Engage both footswitches at the same time, and the Crayon’s Volume knob becomes a balance control between the drive sections of both pedals, with the Hot Tube’s Volume knob determining your overall output level.
The bass, treble, and blend controls affect both sections equally, providing equalisation and the ability to mix dry, clean signal back into the distorted tone. The Hot Wax provides buffered bypass circuitry to bolster your tone across long cable runs and complicated pedalboards. A power supply is provided with the unit.
Key Features:
Controls at a Glance
- Volume knob (Crayon): If only the Crayon section is active, the VOL knob sets master output level. If both sections are active, the VOL knob sets the level between the Crayon’s drive section and the Hot Tubes’ drive section.
- Volume knob (Hot Tubes): Use the Hot Tubes VOL knob to set the master output level, either of the Hot Tubes section, or of both pedals together.
- Drive knobs (both pedals): These knobs dictate the distortion intensity of their respective sections.
- Bass knob: Adjust the Bass knob to boost or cut low frequencies. Positioned at noon, the frequency response of the Bass knob is flat.
- Treble: Adjust the Treble knob to boost or cut high frequencies. Positioned at noon, the frequency response of the Treble knob is flat.
- Footswitches: These switches bypass or engage their respective sections.
