The MacroMate Mini features 55mm threading and is designed to secure to the filter frame of the various FLIP5 Filter Systems (sold separately) using the included 55mm filter holder adapter.
Without corrective optics, the GoPro can only focus on subjects about 0.3 to 0.6 m away underwater. With the MacroMate Mini, that distance changes to as close as 3" away, letting you fill your frame with an object about the size of a golf ball. While the MacroMate Mini works in wide, medium, and narrow video modes, the narrow video mode will give you the sharpest images.
